Re: Ventilators

We use the Bird Avian, and find it works quite well above vT of 50cc (thus approx 5kg) but it can be played with to go down to 35cc if you increase flow rate and limit pressure and inspiratory time. Not recommended though. Stick to 50cc and it's quite reliable. We use it in the arctic down to -45 celcius (not by choice!), but try to limit it's environmental exposure time.

The program that I work for is presently investigating purchasing a new transport ventilator.  The one that we use now works great for most adults. The problem is that it does only volume control ventilation.  So, it doesn't work for smaller children.  We transport children as young as 28 days up through adults.  We do interfacility as well as scene work.

I wondered  what's being used in other programs with a similar patient population?  We are especially interested in a vent that does volume as well as pressure control.  Hopefully, that would enable us to carry one ventilator and meet the needs of our entire patient population.

Thanks
Donna
