I work for a service that shares air space with Air Evac LifeTeam and I must
say they are good people. I have had the opportunity to get to know a
number of their crews and have seen nothing but dedicated and knowledgeable
professionals who have the same desire the rest of us do, to provide quality
patient care and hopefully make a difference in someone's life.
As for the "competition" I think it is healthy. It keeps everyone honest
and striving for excellence. But in all reality Air Evac really doesn't
compete with too many services. Most of their bases are in rural areas
where few other services are willing to go. This concept is something the
rest of us should be following instead of complaining about. Rural areas
with minimal health care services and long distances to major medical
centers are where helicopters can make the biggest impact. Yet we base them
in large metro areas and increase transport times. Air Evac's concept is
reducing "incident to definitive care" times by getting to rural patients
faster.
You point out how you "feel sorry for EagleMed". Did you likewise feel
sorry for Wesley Medical Center's LifeWatch when EagleMed showed up in
Wichita and started competing with them?
Their is alot of sky out there and unfortunately, enough sick and injured
people to go around. There is room for all of us. If you are worried about
Air Evac or any other service moving in on your territory, it seems that
your time would be better spent looking at your own service and trying to
make it better, instead of wasting time trying to make the other guy look
bad.
