RE: Fiberoptic vs Incandescent bulbs

We have used the fiber-optic blades for years and like them much better
than the older "bulb" style. I heard an interesting comment from the
neonate folks not long after we switched. The neo people say they
prefer the bulb type blades because of the physical placement of the
bulb on the blade. They contend the bulb is in a better place to
provide light where they need it when intubating the babies (the bulb is
further forward on the blade), so they keep and use the bulb sets.

I am interseted in hearing the pros and cons of utilizing fiberoptic
laryngoscope blades to perform oral endotracheal intubation. We
currently use the standard incandescent laryngoscope blades and are
interested in purchasing fiberoptic. You input will be valued. I do not
work as a flight medic yet but hope to in the future. I have the utmost
respect of the flight crews that service our area.
Thank you,
