Cub Scouts

To The List,

I have the opportunity to do some first-aid education with our cub scout
pack. I have already done several didactic sessions with them at pack
meetings. Things are being kept at a pretty basic level, as appropriate for
the general age group. We have an upcoming camping weekend and I would like
to do something for them that would include their participation and be fun
for them. If anyone has any ideas they would like to share, I would
appreciate hearing from you. Feel free to e-mail me directly at
johntrn@hotmail.com or post to the list.

I have an idea for a relay game that is as follows:

Splint Relay

Short didactic session on splinting
Teams of three
Assorted splinting materials (things that can be found at home - sticks,
lumber, piles of newspaper, magazines, rags, ropes, etc.)

Start two teams at the same time. Each team of three would race from the
'starting' end of the clearing to splint materials on the other end. There,
a pre-selected member of the team would have his 'broken leg' splinted and
be carried back by the other two - I forget the name of the carry, but it
involves cross-linking the arms of two members of the team to form a seat
for the third. This would continue until all of the cubs have completed a
relay.

Feel free to make suggestions to improve this game or create something
entirely new. I would like to focus on basic splinting.

Thanks,

John Taylor
