RE: New Ambulance Services Payment schedule
I have a question for the group. In a recent summary of the new ambulance
fee schedule one of the items that caught my attention was a statement that
"CMS agrees that in the case where a patient expires prior to the arrival
of the (dispatched) air ambulance, they will pay the base air rate. ( This
is similar to what is done for ground ambulances.)
I was wondering how many programs are currently charging, or considering
charging for this? Will you do so for both scenes and interhospital
transports? Will you do so only if you arrive at the patient, or if you are
still enroute when canceled? Are you concerned about the reaction of the
patient's family if they receive a bill and never even saw the helicopter?
No one wants to leave money on the table, but I can see where this could
raise several concerns. Thanks.
