Re: Turf battles...again

John,

I would like to see an end to the turf war also. But without discussion and dialogue will not be just swept under the rug until the next time it's revisited time and time again. ( "over 13 years"). Always (to some degree at least) where's there is smoke you will find fire. Why is therefore this "smoke" ?

Two of the lessons from nursing I learn that a nurse is a Patient advocate and a nurse is a change agent. I intend to try to help this change. I thought the correct path was to learn on what basis the other party's argument was. With academic completion of my ASN very shortly I haven't found any real merits for it. Maybe I just was educated at a substandard level. Independent of nursing, I have 20 months experience in a trauma center with all the job duties of a new RN but not the respect because I was only a "Paramedic" - Earn the respect of my fellow nurses too - even a few are references. The point of this hasn't anything to do with me but it does have to do with my profession and the general attitude that some have.

Let's find a topic that we can discuss that will help us take better care of our patients, and maybe we can focus less on what initials, etc are behind our names.  We all know the general public thinks that paramedics are all "ambulance drivers and all RN's wear white with little white hats, and think that all doctors are God. That thought process will continue long after just about all of us have retired, no matter how much we complain or how much discussion over "turf battles" there is.
Can we PLEASE move on to a subject that we can actually do something about, instead of a subject that appears to be largely ego-driven?
Sorry, but these are just my thoughts on a subject I have seen discussed over and over during my 13 year career as a flight nurse.
John
