I think that it is a institutional thing and it
depends also on the clinical focus / approach of the team. Team composition (
education) most likely also depends upon whether the patient should be
"within NICU stable prior to transport" or "stable enough to transport the
distance required"
Because my service does high risk ob transfers, I
attended the clinical education portion of the NICU RN program. Did fine there (
Done by the MD and NNPs). I consider myself no better than the best paramedic
and no worse than the worse. I wouldn't consider myself as NICU transport team
person but I feel with the proper education / experience with the context
of NICU transport, the paramedic could be a valuble team member.
Without writing another message...
To the person who stated someone didn't understand
why or if Paramedic should take NRP also I'll extended to APLS, ENPAC then I say
they don't really know what Paramedicine is about.
Paramedics using your best PR skills educate the
other professions, and learn to suffer the ignorant. Also it maybe getting high
time that WE do whatever it takes to legitimize our profession.
