RE: stable neonate transports

I am talking about primary caregivers such as an RN. Of course there are
MD's RT's etc, but I have never seen a neonatal transport team not consist
of some type of nurse. In addition, I have never seen a paramedic or EMT
take an NICU assignment in a hospital. States definitely vary, but that is
not even close to fitting into the job description in our state. The
argument is getting off the point. The point of the whole discussion is
whether it is safe for a paramedic or EMT to transport stable neonates.
Again I will stress that it is vital to be prepared for the worse. Neonates
go down hill very quickly. It is important to have a team that not just
deals with an occasional neonate, but its specialty is neonatal transport.
Again as I stated, in California it is state law that a neonatal transport
team consists of an RN with NICU experience. It's pretty black and white.
I'm not getting into the argument of who can spit farther.
