EMTALA is alot like the Bible. 10 people can read it and
all 10 will walk away with a differant meaning. No one can
seem to agree on what EMTALA does or doesn't mean.
Personnally I think people twist it out of proportion more
times than not. My understanding of it is pretty simple.
The level of care being offered (or that can be offered)at
the sending facility must be maintained throughout
transport. As I said earlier, level of care is defined by
the treatments, procedures and medications that your
protocol allows you to utilize. It doesn't matter if your
a nurse or paramedic, without your medical directors
signature on your protocols or on-line medical control we
are all worthless in the transport enviornment.
Just my 2 cents worth again! (for those of you keeping
track I've put a total of .28 cents into the pot.) :)
