Re: transport time (school assignment)
For the past 4 years, I've been taught to activate the helicopter
early... basically as soon as I percieve that there is the need for
their services. This can be enroute to the scene...
I've also been taught that it's a good idea to assess whether or not
the RW can get to the scene, assess and load the patient, and get to
the appropriate hospital faster than I can, from when I activate them.
I've rarely heard of a RW intercept of an ambulance, but this idea
makes sense to me as it shortens the distance the RW has to fly out
to a location, assuming the pt is packaged well, the distance back to
the hospital is also therefore shortened, all with the advantage of
the ground ambulance being sent back to station, and the pt moving
very quickly to definitive care.
Good Idea!
