RE: transport time (school assignment)

I think its a misconception that RSI and other skills are not done by ground
crews, with the advent of more competent QA/QI programs, better medical
directors, and more educated paramedics, these skills are more common. Here
in Idaho central lines, chest tubes, RSI, and pericardial taps are all in
our scope, as a 911 ground provider!
The simple truth is that the new paramedics is coming out with more entry
level knowledge than even 5 years ago, and sometimes we forget that as
"seasoned providers". This is not to say that we should give them carte
blanch, but some things are no longer only in the realm of flight crews (nor
should they be!) My personal opinion is that there essential skills that
every ALS program should do....RSI is one of them. That means all the QA
along with that. QA is essential , and ALS should step up to THAT issue as
well.

I think that in the next year or two you will start to see more ground
services starting to use RSI.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any studies showing the efficacy of
pericardial taps (air or ground?)
