Re: transport time (school assignment)

Mark,

I will only amplify what has been pointed out well by some the others. Given
the all factors the same RW will arrive at the Trauma center much sooner.
Most programs I am aware of have launch times of 5 to 7 minutes. Couple that
with the flight time ( usually 1/2 the straight line distance) ie 20 miles
( 10 minutes). 10 minutes scene times with a return time of 10
minutes....mmm 27 minutes after dispatch.

As we both know that in an urban area an ground ambulance cannot maintain 60
mph safely or smooth enought to provide good care.

Several points of data may be where the fruit ( apples, oranges.) On scene
time prior to flight program request. ie 45 sec to 2 min for the seasoned
Paramedic to decide if medivac is needed. ( 95% of cases). Time for
communications to occur,. ie dispatch to dispatch ( this is a potential
blackhole) Other possible delays are coordination of LZs and location of
incident.etc.- these are usually unnecessary delays that care be worked out
after dispatch of the aircraft to a general area then refined while it is
enroute.

Look at both process and normalize them as best as possible. Then look at
the data tell you. I'd like to know the outcome.

Jim Kendrick
