RE: peds intubation-- where did I go wrong???

Title: RE: peds intubation-- where did I go wrong???

Everyone is right, even the best have an intubation that they can not get. However, I teach intubation and there are some tricks that can be taught. In peds, technique is everything. And Angie I am sorry girl I have to disagree with you about the OR time. Mannequins, Mannequins, Mannequins. They are truly the best at working on technique. Also Shoulder roll, Shoulder roll, Shoulder roll, in the age group you describe. Taking the time ( which isn't much) to get the patient positioned properly with something under the shoulders and body midline can make or break the success of a pediatric intubation. As for the slippery tongue, which can also be an issue in this age group, there is a trick of placing cloth tape on the top of the blade. It acts like a non-skid patch against the tongue. Works pretty slick. Work on the technique and if you have any questions you are welcome to contact me directly.

Subject:        peds intubation--   where did I go wrong???

looking for some guidance:   had a difficult 3mth old intubation last night :   I am still a fairly new RN when it comes to Critical Care Transport, all you old pro's out there!!!  any tricks, hints,or ideas for intubating kids/ neonates would be greatly appreciated.  I am not sure if my technique is crappy or if my blade choice was wrong. I was pretty bummed out when I didn't get it.  I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY DIRECTION OR COMMENTS FROM EVERYONE
