Re: Air Medical Helicopter Transport Research Paper Assistance Needed

I agree wholeheartedly.  Safety is safety and it applies, no matter what type of flight one accepts.

However, anyone who has been in this business for any length of time, knows that some of the calls are unwarranted and unnecessary, but I would rather err on the side of caution.  Our rural EMS services have very few hospitals from which to choose and none of them are Trauma Centers, so we would rather they call us whenever they feel it is necessary and let us transport them, if there is even the slightest question about whether or not it is necessary.  We never imply the patient shouldn't have been flown, because we don't want them to not call us the next time they get a patient that does need air transport.  That's our philosophy and our belief here.

A few points:

Aircraft safety/preventing accidents does not depend on the purpose of the flight, warranted or non warranted.

The leap from non warranted air medical transport to aircraft safety cannot be made. One is a medical decision and the other is related to aviation. This is apples and oranges.

If you want to do a paper on warranted or non-warranted air medical transports, stick to that subject, don't try to hook it to aircraft safety the paper won't be successful.

Safe aircraft operations does not apply to aircraft parked on the ground, only to operating aircraft.
