I agree with everyones responses on the forum in regards to safety. But if you really want to asses how many unneccessary/unwarranted flights that the numerous airmedical programs make each day, start with the interfacility transfers. These make up the greatest percentage of flight volume for most services. Ground EMS is only doing what they have been taught and what the provider feels is best for their patient. In contrast, a comparison in the number of unneccessary/unwarranteded flight request by physicians versus EMS may surprise you.
