Peds Vent Choices
We currently use the MVP10 on 4 of our Incubators ( Airborne ) but are
currently trialing the brand new CrossVent 2 i (BioMed Devices), it is a cut
down version of the Crossvent 4 and can be mounted in and incubator with all
the controls up front. So far the RTs seem to really like it, it has all the
options of the crossvent 4 except the adult volumes have been eliminated. I
wished it had a airway temp sensor ( we heat/ humidify our gases) a pivot
front screen (hard to read from all angles), and must importantly a built in
blender / air compressor. Bio med does offer a air entrainment system on
the Crossvent 4 which would be very nice if available on the 2i. We've asked
for it ! As far as the LTV , we currently use them for our Peds population
but like other programs have issues with not being "sanctioned" for use
under 10 Kg. Our physicians feel that it is a better option than to use
manual bagging ( which is not uniform), after all we don't put non-sedated
/non-paralyzed patients on our vents in this weigh range, so their ability
to pull a breath from the vent is not critical to us. We love the LTV
capabilities, especially the internal air compressor, it keeps us from
lugging air cylinder around and makes flights via helicopter or fixed wing
much easier. The downside of the LTV is the charging plug / transformer and
the mounting system. Why can't manufactures do a better job on designing
their charging plugs and transport mounting systems, these connections are
often the weak link..... Just my thoughts and experiences.
