Re: can we stop the foolishness yet/rn to emt

Karen,
I think we've all been a little hard on you. I would
offer some advice as you crossover into nursing...take
your time. You could probably go to work right now in
an emergency department or for an air service and
function as nurse. I say that because the treatment for
most presentations is the same as what you are doing
right now. However, take the time to learn everything
you can. First, make it a goal to get your BSN. The
extra science makes all the difference sometimes. After
you graduate take the time to work on a medical floor or
in the ICU. Listen to the MD's, nurses, RT,
pharmacists, etc. and add to your knowledge base. Then,
take these experiences and add them to your street
knowledge and you will be a superstar. I have been a
nurse for 15 years and flying for 12. I started as an
AD nurse, got my BSN and paramedic along the way and
learned at every step. I'm now in CRNA school and we
are studying the same topics yet again, but at a depth I
did not know existed. This has been my experience
everytime I have returned to the classroom. Good Luck
