I cannot recall the authors or the name of the study, but there has been at 
least one study published on this subject (local facility for stabilization 
v. direct to trauma center). The study supported going direct to the Level I 
trauma center (better patient outcomes), but I do not recall any more 
details, including study design, validity, etc.
