Greetings all, I trust that everyone is having as best a holiday as possible.
I am interested in learning how many medics are taught the legal ramifications (and possible proceedings) involved in their workplace as part of their didactic or even clinical education. This is even more important in those areas where the medics aren't regulated by a licensing board, but have their acts delegated to them by physicians.
We had an interesting presentation by an internist about an actual case that went to court. Of course anyone who touched that chart was involved in the litigation, but the physician mentioned the legal representation available to him through the provincial medical association. Our medics don't have those resources and therefore could have been thrown to the dogs. Currently, our medics don't have any formal component involving this area of work, other than anecdotal stories that move through the team.
Thanks,
