I am a member of the Arizona State Board of Nursing Advanced Practice Committee - the issue of RSI was raised recently and the opinion of the board remains - any medication can be administered if the intent is sedation and not anesthetic. This is a rather broad opinion and the understanding that at times the meds may cause a patient to "slip into" anesthesia states - however, the key phrase is I believe the intent of sedation. As always the medication must be under the order of a physician.
