Re: working in the ER
Our program also provides a PICC service for all of our inpatients. But,
because of the procedure, the PICC nurse (flight nurse) is not on call
during this daytime service. This allows for 3 flight nurses (we fly
nurse/nurse) to be on call in the day time AND allows us to make money
for our program.
Our on-call flight nurses are in the ER. We've been in business for
about 25 years and no matter where we're taking call from (about 800/yr)
there is always some resentment: we don't "take" enough patients, we
have to leave when ER is busiest, we actually do PR and leave "for no
reason" AND we wear a different uniform.
