Re: working in the ER



Sorry for not being more specific.  We have been called upon to insert PICC
lines in the inpatient areas of the hospital.  We average 3-5 insertions per
shift (12 hours) and have been received fairly well.  These usually take
less than one hour to complete and we initiate contact with the patient's
primary nurse to assure availability if we are called away emergently.  This
has considerably lightened the load originally taken by a pair of clinical
specialists and allowed them to attend to the details of their positions
more effectively.  It has also provided availability later in the day and on
weekends/holidays.  There has been a learning curve for all involved but it
seems to function pretty well.  If you would like any more details feel free
