Re: working in the ER
Our program has a requirement to work in the ED when an urgent call for help
has been issued. We respond to Trauma either as scribes or as nursing help. Due
to difficulty with differences in nursing vs medic roles, the medics have not
been often utilized in the ED.
A few of us do work the ED when our time is not being taken by charting,
getting the aircraft/ambulance back in service,etc.... By in large we are well
recieved and appreciated. The staff seem to recognize our responsibility and do
not resent our sudden departures.
I respond to requests to go to the PICU,ICU, PACU but find that the staff
there have been unsure of my capabilities. Despite my broad ICU backround in my
institution, I am not often utilized in those areas. The flight suit really
throws them.
While some resentment exists over the seemingly large amount of down time, it
has not been overwhelming.
By in large I have had a good relationship with the in-house staff.
