Re: Family Ride alongs



I believe it is important to include family members when possible for all
patients, for the usual reasons we would include the next of kin.
Remember that for a child or the debilitated adult a parent/ spouse can be a
historian, signer of consent, and a comfort to the patient no matter what age.
Capacity of the the aircraft/ ambulance aside, these can be important issues in
the dire moments of ones life. And a benifit to those of us at the bedside.
We take parents/ family when possible, when the crew unanimously agrees that it
is OK. We do this on the aircraft as well as the ground ambulances. We base the
decision on the impression of emotional stability and wieght/space concerns.
