Josh, Good luck, sounds like you have your work cut out for you. If you
have never seen Mt. Shavano you should. The entire Arkansas River valley is
great. I have not been there for about 7 years, my parents met and married
in Salida. The Angle of Shavano, the chalk cliffs and all of the hot
springs...what more could you say. I think that the Chaffee County EMS is
Volunteer, but they are very good at SAR. Just remember if you are in
trouble do something to contrast your self from the snow and your
surroundings (advice from my dad who has helped recover bodies of people who
could have been rescued if they would have done something to draw attention
to them selves)
