Jim is correct when he says you may need a satellite phone in some areas.
I work for St. Mary's CareFlight out of Grand Junction. We fly a Bell 412. We do
not advertise rescue service but if called we will respond. The locals use us as
a resource to get their crews closer.
If  you have a ham operator in your group you may consider bringing a
programmable handheld  since there are repeaters all over them mountains.
Our phone number is 1 800 332 4923. That will get you into our dispatch center.
Our fly time from Grand Junction to Gunnison is 45 min. That should give you some
idea of how long it would take us to fly to that area.
If you're coming up the next couple weeks don't forget your orange.
