Re: Looking Deeper
Why Flight Nursing?
Is this question about what job is more important? Or is it about who does the
greater good? I this job important?
I've been asked these questions alot in the recent past.
If you work in a clinic as a nurse you take care of a lot of people, with
little hands on.
In my flight job I maybe do less actual patient care than I have ever done in
20 years but have a great deal more automnomy when I did in the ICU.
An old boss used to call certain nurses "heat seekers", "adrenaline junkies",
etc.....
I guess I fit in that slot, and so I was finally able to get this job. I love
this job for those reasons.
In my area I'm not altogether sure that elitism is a great component of my
interest, though it may be for others. I work all around our center with some
great folks. I can be humbled.
Never the less, flyin around, in our big ass bird, ready to do whatever,
whenever, sure is cool.
We all have different strengths. As members of a team we bring these strengths
to bear. I think my strengths are best utilized in this setting, for now.
Better than when I was an ICU nurse, far better than when I was a Med-surg
staff RN. Certainly better than I'll ever be in a clinic.
Good question....you writing a paper?
