Re: Looking Deeper
In my case I think it was 100% ego that drew me to critical care and flight
nursing. It fell into that category of elitism, that appealed to
me. There are only a few slots, and you have to work to get a flight job
in most cases. We handle the sickest patients and it's the constant
testing of my abilities, skill and knowledge that keeps me here. My ego
enjoys the relief I see in the eyes of the hospital when my flight crew
shows up.
I've been doing it for 23 years now, combined civilian and military. I
started out being driven by ego and although I'm still an arrogant,
egotistical, SOB I've think I've matured in my outlook. Now I'm more
driven to pass on the skills and knowledge that I've gained over the years,
and to make a difference in some ones life.
So maybe we start by ego and then grow into the job.
