Landing Zone preparation/equipment

Folks,

Was wondering if you all, especially pilots, might be able to help me
out. Want to know what your opinion is as to the type of equipment and
procedures needed to prep a landing zone for an aeromedical helicopter.
What can we keep on the medic to facilitate this? I'm thinking chemical
lightsticks, maybe a GPS device. What other types of equipment are
useful to you when we summon you for assistance? We ran into a problem
at our local hospital one evening a few weeks back. Their helipad
lights could not be activated and we ended up lighting the pad with our
ambulance headlights until the airship was over the pad, then darkend
them so as not to blind the pilot. What else can we do??
