RE: ATTN: Rollie Parish et al...
Mr. Miller,
You have just discovered, to your shock and discomfort, one of the many
truths of the Internet. This is not something that is under Rollie's
control. It is the nature of publishing material on the Web, that is a) not
encrypted, and b) sent to hundreds, if not thousands, of servers for
distribution to all of us.
Even email sent directly from one person to another goes through various
computers on its travels, and therefore should not be considered "secure".
As you figured out, no one should send anything out over the Net that is not
for public consumption, unless they are doing so in an encrypted format
(e-commerce, etc.).

Dear Rollie and esteemed colleagues:
I was doing some genealogy research last night on the web when I searched my
own name on a search engine. I was a bit shocked and also a bit concerned
that each and every posting I have ever submitted to the Flightweb mailing
list was returned under the search results, word for word and many also
other people's comments to my postings.
While I understand that the internet is not a "private" place, I guess I
expected more security of our comments we post on the list and for them to
be reserved for at least list subscribers. I understand now that this is not
the case.
Rollie, I am not sure this is such a good practice for the service. I mean,
many people speak their minds on the list regarding even their own programs,
and I would think the comments one makes could fall into the hands of
someone in a position to make judgement upon them. For instance, perhaps an
attorney for someone litigating against an air medical provider.
I realize and advocate freedom of speech, and I realize no one should post
comments they are not willing to state to anyone person to person. I simply
feel with such ease of discovery for the general public I will have to
carefully consider whether or not to post comments at all or resorting to
the use of a ficticious name.
Just wanted to share this bit of criticism and hope it is well received by
the group. Personally Rollie, if I were the list manager I would not make
our comments available to the search engines. Butthen again, the list is
under your management.
Sincerely,
Jeff Miller, RRT
