Email Viruses
Just a quick reminder to folks on the list regarding email viruses. The listserver system has
been filtering out more and more virus messages being sent to the list recently, including the
most recent "I-Worm/Sircam" worm. Fortunately, these have been caught and blocked from being resent to
everyone, but this may not work in every situation.
If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to install some virus-protection software,
such as those listed below:
AVG - http://www.grisoft.com
McAfee - http://www.mcaffee.com
Norton - http://www.norton.com
In addition, remember the basic advice not to open attachments unless you know the sender and
are expecting a specific file. The way I look at it, ALL email messages with attachments should be
considered virus-infected until proven otherwise.
While we don't have a way to block all attachments, I'd like propose that we all agree NOT to
send ANY attachments to the list. That way, if a message with an attachment comes via the
Flightmed list, everyone can delete it automatically. Like I said, the system has been catching
virus-infected messages so far, but only because the messages are too large or because they are
being sent with a "From" address that's not in the subscriber list. It's only a matter of time
before one gets through.
Thanks for your attention.
