CA Licensure Question
This question is geared towards the Paramedics in California, but I welcome
any persons with knowledge to please reply.
I am an ex-flight paramedic wishing to re-enter the profession after
being out of the profession for 5 years.
I completed my initial Paramedic training in 1990 in the state of
Kentucky. After working as a Flight Paramedic in Kentucky for three years, I
relocated to the state of Florida where I received reciprocity by
examination and worked as a Flight Paramedic until an unfortunate traffic
crash in 1995 left me physically unable to function adequately in the
profession.
My Florida license lapsed in January of 1996, as I was unable to renew
my license due to not being actively employed as a Paramedic. Since this
time, I have fully recovered from my injury and have no limiting deficits.
I relocated to the state of California last year and wish to apply for CA
licensure, but understand from various individuals & from my understanding
of the the CA EMS authority website that too much time has lapsed since
being licensed. I have maintained licensure as a Respiratory Therapist and
am currently licensed in the state of CA.
I find this hard to believe that I have to repeat my entire EMT & Paramedic
training to work as a Paramedic in this state.
Has anyone else faced this situation in the past, and are there loopholes
around this?
Thank you all for your help.
