Re: Physician-Staffed Helicopters
First things first as previously stated it is the PATIENT which we all work
so hard for. It does not matter who is in the aircraft but that we treat
that patient accordingly on the ground and in the air. For any person who
takes 30 minutes on the ground trying to stop a bleeder is not doing what is
in the best interest for the patient. Secondly as previously noted I am
retired from nursing but I will state that the cost per hour of running the
S-76 vs a BK 117 can be cheaper if done properly and the Metro Program has
shown that. The pull out in Cleveland by one hospital network who brought
their own service on line was done in my opinion due to political issues here
in the city. The Metro Life Flight programs bills at a rate less than over
50% of the programs in the country. They have a very thorough process that
looks at costs and ways of saving them. In terms of the doctors that fly I
believe that once you committ to something and it is effective why would you
change it. Secondly the costs of having them on board has never been an
issue. They have been and always will be an asset to their program.
Just another thought,
Kevin
