I would think that the distinctive aroma of either gas or diesel would
alert you to their presence. Removing clothing saturated with either of
these would remove most of the hazard. You would still have the odor and
the skin residual to deal with but they would "probably" not give off
sufficient vapors to be within the flammable ranges of either gas or diesel
- key word being probably. The greater hazard might be ill effects to the
flight crew due to the vapor odors - especially on a hot, steamy day (You
get those in Des Moines?? :-) ).
