Re: duty time/length of shift
In quickly glancing over the replies/posts on this
subject, I did not see any references to pilot
schedules, with one exception about some research.
Anecdotally, one of the more popular schedules I have
heard our pilots refer to is the "7-on/7-off"
schedule, which I believe matches the proposal by the
initial poster.
I submit the following points:
>pilots have a workload inflight that is directly
affected by fatigue issues, similar to the medical
staff
>the 7-on/7-off schedule is one preferred by many
pilots (at least locally)
>most pilots are more apt (not less) to consider
safety issues when making important decisions (such as
scheduling)
I would guess that this schedule (7-on/7-off) has some
overall benefit, even if the research does not support
its use.
To be fair, these are just my thoughts; what do you
think?
