duty time/length of shift

Our flight crews currently work 12hour shifts with 5 days on 5 days off 
followed by 2 days on then 2 days off. 5/2 split.  We would like to go to a 
7 day on 7 day off schedlule.  Our program director thinks that by the 7th 
day we would be fatigued and patient care would suffer.

1. does anyone have information studies ect.. on duty time fatigue?
2. what type of schedule do you work?
