Final Thought
Respected Colleagues,
My final thought before I personally bid farewell to the Air Evac topic.
I think most of us in this profession will agree that launching in poor
weather, not maintaining our aircraft in an airworthy condition, or any
other risk have no place in this industry. After all, we are not flying
corporate executives around to make another million dollars for a huge
company. We are established and requested to make an impact in the mortality
and morbidity of the patients we serve. They depend on us to use our
professional judgement to NOT increase that incidence of mortality and
morbitity. Yes, we are heros in the eyes of many. But will will NEVER be
heros in the eyes of the parent or child of a patient we kill with our egos
or stupidity. They will never forget or forgive us, and hence our industry
gets yet another perpetual black eye.
To gamble with safety in this industry serves justice to no one. Sometimes
the greatest "skill" we have as air medical professionals is the utilization
of the word "No".
Best regards to all,
P.R. Adams
