In my previous posting I made reference to the prehospital but not interhospital.  Here too, Judi is absolutely correct.  EMTALA does not mention mode of transport at all.  It only states . . . . 

"The transfer is effected through qualified personnel and transportation equipment, as required, including the use of necessary and medically appropriate life support measures during the transfer."

Nothing about closest or mode here!!
