Re: Droperidol vs Compazine
Hay all,,
Just had to respond ta this one,, I'm well know in our flight team for giving
the majority of my patients Inapsine,, usually 1.25 mgs fairly fast,, I keep
Benadryl in my sleeve pocket for anxiety reactions and have had ta use it
only twice in 10 yrs flying,,, I like the "dissociative neuroleptic" response
and the side effect of the anti emetic,,, sometines I think we take for
granted the emotional stress our pts are under,, leaving family with a
possibly life threatning condition, most fear the flying,, etc etc When left
alone they just sleep, but are easily aroused for reasessment,, and are
alert,, if still anxious then a couple mgs of Versed and they wake at the
recieving facility and tell us "that wasn't so bad!" The drop in pressure
for me seems to be more related to them relaxing to there before we arrived
pressures, and easily treateable if need be.... I will say I am an adult RN
and majority of our flights are interhospital cardiac pts,, 60% of ~3,000 pt
transports/yr,, time with the pt probably 60-90 minutes,,, lowering the
stress obviously lowers SVR and I tend ta need less MS for pain control,, (
Hate filling out narc sheets at the end of a shift!!) oh and we don't carry
Compazine,,,
Sorry,, I tend ta babble after them 24 hr shifts,
