RE:Re: CFRN REQUIREMENTS
Most excellent reply! DT has already upset your local fire district who now does not want to use your flight program services any longer. Wat to go DT!

WOW What a beating!
Most of the points made in previous email responses to your posting are
correct, valid and well intentioned. I too am in college pursuing a degree
and have been able to keep a 4.0gpa, so I understand the work, commitment
and sacrifice that has gone into your unusual accomplishment. With that
said, lets get out our "red pen" and go to work.
Your first paragraph was well constructed and had several very good,
relevant points.
*************************************
"I am a recent 4.0 grad ( 12/99) of a BSN program - I do very well with test
taking".
<The fact that your graduation date is 12/99 is distressing. Having been
out of school and in the "real world" for over a year and yet not really
learned anything about social and professional behavior, says a lot. Your
first important point, "I do very well with test taking" is also revealing.
Despite the fact that test-taking could and may need to be hyphenated in
this context, the statement itself gets more to the "meat" of the issue.
You are a good test taker. I have 24-years experience in the medical
profession and have seen "Very Good Test-Takers" practice and/or commit
malpractice in the medicine profession. Ability to take a test does not
often go hand-in-hand with ability to perform. Ability to perform is a
combination of natural ability and common sense, personal drive, good
judgement, and inherited intelligence along with the ability to
successfully take tests and write papers. Any weakness in one can be
covered for by another up to a certain point. Equally, any excellence in
one does not necessarily totally overcome the weakness in the others.>
**************************************************************
"I am interested in taking the tests to become a CEN and CFRN. I
have looked over the material and think I could easily pass the exams and
obtain certification with a little studying."
<Your second point started out harmless enough by stating your desire to
take the CEN and CFRN exams. If you had ended with the first line, you
probably would have been alright and would have received responses that
were both supportive of your efforts along with (and this may have been
what your ego was ultimately seeking) praise of your accomplishments from
some of the best patient care professionals in the world. But, your lack of
common sense, good judgement and maturity led you to go on and say "I have
looked over the material and think I could easily pass the exams and obtain
certification with a little studying." Here is where you began to get into
trouble with the group. What your statement did was insult those who
developed the ideas, worked out the logistics, wrote test items, proctored
evaluation testing, re-wrote test items, re-evaluated testing success
rates, quantified question validity, published the test, and have
championed its successes and acceptance. What you failed to realize was
that many of these people are in the profession, subscribe to this listserv
and have for the most part advanced to the professional levels that they
are either making the direct decisions about who gets hired into this
profession or affect these decisions with their with their sought after
views and opinions. BAD MOVE SLICK.>
***********************************
"I have limited ER experience and have never been in a helicopter."
<This statement was unnecessary since it is self evident in the content and
tone of your posting.>
***********************************
"The CEN and CFRN have no requirements as to experience in flight or ER - they
"suggest" 2 years. - you only have to pass the tests."
<This statement by itself would have been fine but having been made after
the previous slap in the face of the test creators and professionals in the
business, it became another slap in the face and lost any of the supporters
you had in the list.>
*****************************************
"If I become certified, CFRN and CEN - ( which I would have no difficulty
doing), Would it improve my chances of getting a flight nurse position down
the line???"
<Well at least this question's wording shows that you have the killer
instinct and ability to follow two slaps with an upper-cut on the chin.
Once again, BAD MOVE SLICK!!>
****************************************
"D.T."
<Not signing your name to the email does at least show that you did realize
what you were saying and how you were saying it and that you were not just
"really stupid." A simple search using your email address should reveal
your name so that those who do not want to work with you and thus place
their lives and the lives of their patients in so arrogant hands, can watch
for your name on applications coming across their desks.>
You owe those that you have tried to insult with this listserv posting, a
very humble... crow eating...apology. Otherwise, I wish you a lot of
success in whatever other profession or practice environment you choose to
pursue.
Sincerely,
George P. Glessner III
