Re: CFRN REQUIREMENTS
I debated on whether to respond aloud to myself on this one...or to actually
post something. Obviously the latter of the two won out. I congratulate you
on your achievement, but please use your knowlege to understand that you can
never get out of a book what years of putting your hands on sick patients
teaches you. I havent found a book yet that ever taught me how to look at a
patient and understand how close to deaths door they were. I can honestly
say that as a Flight Paramedic, I too could probably study hard for the CFRN,
use rote knowledge and pass it...BUT, applying that to a living breathing
patient is a completely different ballgame. I also know RN's that can just
study for the Paramedic exam and pass it...BUT, does that mean they can jump
in the back of a busy 911 truck and handle the environment?...maybe not.
One real life example. The program I flew for required the RN's and the
Para's to take the same IABP test. I studied it, took it, and did very well
on it; HOWEVER, I would not in a million years attempt to take a ballon pump
patient alone. I have the book knowledge, but I dont have the years of
bedside care that it really takes to comfortably manage that patient. You
dont get to re-test the module when things go to hell in a handbasket in the
back of the helo...the only thing that will save you is experience.
Use your knowledge to gain experience, then apply it! Your patients will
thank you for it.
An ex-fly guys opinion
