Fluid Resuscitation
Normal Saline, Ringers Lactate or Blood?
Clinical practice regarding the type and amount of fluid that is used for fluid resuscitation in trauma patient's "appears" to be changing. The goal of this study is to determine which intravenous fluid is "best" for fluid resuscitation of trauma patients, and why that particular fluid is the fluid of choice. The study will poll Airmedical transport services to determine what IV fluid is currently being carried, what "qualifying" criteria must be met for a trauma patient to receive each "type" of fluid resuscitation; and if that criteria is met, how much fluid is given to each patient population - beginning with our pediatric population, children, teenagers, adults, and elderly patient's. The following is a list of questions to answer specifically: 1)Do you carry NS or LR or blood? or a combination of all three of these fluids? 2)Does your program have specific parameters for who should receive fluid resuscitation, e.g. elderly, young, pediatric population? 4)Does your program's standards of practice differentiate between blunt trauma patients and penetrating trauma patients with regard to fluid resuscitation? 5)If so, what is the differentiation criteria? 6)How much fluid is routinely given to each patient population? 7)Do you routinely use Normal Saline or Ringer's Lactate? 8)Please specify why each type of fluid is the "fluid of choice" for your program? And why this is the fluid of choice for your program? 9)If you routinely administer blood products, please specify your program's pre-determined clinical indications for administration. 10) Are you a rotor wing, fixed wing or combination of both - type of program? 11) Are you hospital sponsored or privately sponsored? 12) Are you hospital based or remote located? 13)Any other information that you feel would be of value to this study.

Thank you for your interest in this study.
