Re: CCEMT-P vs. CFP
I took the CFP last month but I did not take the CCEMT-P course (I still passed,
but it was a difficult test and I know that the CCEMT-P course would have
helped.)
There are (amongst the normal advanced provider questions):
CAAMTS question
Part 135 questions
Blood gas questions
Gas law questions
Balloon pump questions (I know, I know, I've never used one either, but you need
to be familiar with their operation, indications, theory, etc ...)
Ventilator questions
Indwelling catheter questions
If you're going in with just a "Paramedic" background, that is not going to do
it. At the very least, you should read Mosby's Flight Nursing book, the CAAMTS
book and review your ventilator and medication literature.
It is a difficult test and the 80%-correct-to-pass doesn't help make it any
easier. If someone offers a "refresher" day near you for the CFP exam, you
should take it. (They had one in Modesto California a couple months ago, I'm
not sure when or where the next one is).
I do know there was talk of creating a comprehensive study guide for it - that
would be a BIG help for those that have not taken it yet. I'll see if I can't
find out what the status is of the study guide if you are interested.
Good luck...
