Ambulance Disaster Plan

Sorry if this is a repeat message, but I was told that the body of the message did not go through the first time.

Hello Everyone,

We are a dedicated Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team located in Cincinnati, OH. We transport primarily by ground, but do a fair amount of fixed-wing as well. Our team is composed of an RN, RT, and EMT-B.

We are currently in the process of developing an ambulance disaster plan to address things such as:

1. Fire onboard the ambulance.

2. Collision/accident involving the ambulance.

3. Bad Weather.

4. Coming upon the scene of an accident while in route for a patient.

5. Acute illness of a team member while on transport.

We are looking to establish protocols for these situations, and to address questions such as:

1. If we have to evacuate the vehicle, where do we meet and what should we grab from the unit on the way out?

2. Are there other items that we should stock on the units in the event of a disaster?

3. Who should be the person in charge in these situations?

Your response to these questions is greatly appreciated. If any of you have written protocols, would it be possible for you to send me a copy?

Thanks in advance,

Kie Shelley RRT
