Two issues,
as far as numbers - I am not only concerned with traumas and trauma centers. A hospital that handles larger numbers of angioplasties, bypass procedures, high risk OB, critical peds--- tends to handle them better. Most hospitals which see such quantities of critical pts tend to be larger tertiary care centers. Flight programs attached to such medical centers will in turn see a larger volume of such critical patients.
Yes critical patients are sometimes transported by ground. But you can not argue that the "average" patient transported by air is more critical than the "average" pt sent by ground
