Re: Fw: Worth reading

I just wrote a lengthy tome, but lost it to somewhere
in the electronic etherworld...so I'll keep this
short.
Most people know this, but very few want to believe
it. People are afraid of other's success, especially
when its a rapid rise. Even if the success is not
always a rise to power, people belittle it for their
own satisfaction. Human nature is such that the world
supports the underdog and wants to topple the king of
the hill. Then they topple the new king and support
the new underdog. This may be why the basic concepts
of communism are so appealing to some, but that's
another story.

Look at Bill Gates. Talk about a self-made man, yet
he's always in the crosshairs. He could probably give
away every last cent he owns, and there would still be
some people dissin' him.

I have a few "ya buts", but that would take away from
the general intent of the editorial. One of the
problems is that you have such a powerful promotion
machine, that little successes (even big ones) by
themselves are often overshadowed by news from the
U.S.. It's almost like the poor kid learning to read,
but gets no recognition because the rich and
successful quarterback just made a great play.

Hey, I was slapped upside the head back in the late
80's by a New Zealander (in Germany of all places) for
this same attitude. Once I took my head out of my -
well we won't go there - I looked at things a
different way and agree with the sentiments of the
editorial.

Don't worry, its one of those things that people have
to learn for themselves, and no amount of shouting or
self promotion can solve that. That could actually
make things worse. And until the time that they do,
we go about buying our American made or designed
products, or spend the money we made selling goods to
the U.S..

Lastly, one thing that really frosts my pumpkin, is
that I'll never, EVER forgive the British for making
it so hard on the colonies that you had to leave.

Just don't get me going on guns...
