Re: Safety Question?
Ok, usually I am a spectator and I do not post comments very often. But
something bothers me here!
The question seems to ask to balance engine starts with the safety of the
crew? No matter how tight economics are, BE SAFE!!!! No matter how
"overboard" it seems...BE SAFE!!!!! No matter how other people pressure
you...BE SAFE!!!! AND NO MATTER WHAT IS CONSIDERED AS INDUSTRY
STANDARD......BE SAFE!!!
We are constantly questioned about our strict weather minimums and the
relation between it and missed flights. I don't know how many flights ($$$$)
we have missed, but 24 years without an accident isn't because we applied all
industry standards to our program. It's because we took each standard and
applied it when it seemed to benefit us in the safety department (or didn't
affect our safety).
We do hot loads, but only when the flight crew is comfortable with it. We
take into account things such as pt. weight, winds, available TRAINED help,
type A/C we are in (primary ship = high skid gear.......back-up = low
gear)....if all of this is in safety margins, then we look at pt. condition,
engine starts, saved time.
