Re: Safety Question

Our program utilizes the Bell 407 and we do NICU flights with an isolette.
Our isolette weighs 126 lbs. We do not do "hot" unloads with this scenario.
One of our crew chief's operates in the back of the aircraft with the
specialty team as a safety person. This crew chief directs all loading and
unloading of the isolette and the NICU nurses. I agree with the safety
concern. Our program is 2 years old and I would have a concern about
unloading the isolette with the added noise of the rotors turning. The
isolette is difficult enough to unload when the ship is shut down and you
are able to communicate with the other personnel helping on the pad, with
all of the additional medical equipment, O2, and cables attached to the
patient and isolette.

We do however, do hot unloads at our base hospital pad with other
interfacility and scene flight patient's when the patient's condition
warrants the additional time savings. These cases are only done with our
regular flight crew onboard though.
