Re: Safety Question?

150lbs isolette, new program, new helicopter, Bell 407, not the normal flight
crew, no experience, helicopter startups vs crew and patient safety........I
don't think so!!!!
Based on what you are reporting here, hot unloads should not be happening.
Our program does hot unloads at our home base only, only with the flight
crew(no specialty teams on board) and we have a Bell 412( larger and higher
than a Bell 407.) We do not do hot unloads outside of our base hospital.
Sounds as if the crew on board the 407 that you are talking about is the
neonate team and pilot only which means that the pilot is probably getting
out while helicopter is running to assist the neonate team which in some
cases are probably not as familiar with the aircraft and operations around
the aircraft as the flight crew would be. I would be pushing for better
safety in this situation.
